As you move forward in your journey toward energy independence, our expert team will guide you through a structured, well-defined end-to-end process. As a full turn-key solutions provider Green Shield Group handle everything, from design and permissions to installation and maintenance. Our team works around your operations to avoid disruption, and keeps things moving smoothly behind the scenes.
Below is an overview of the stages involved in bringing your solar PV installation to life.
Feasibility study #
At this stage, our technical team conducts an initial evaluation of your site. We assess your location, energy demands, and environmental factors to ensure solar energy is a viable solution for your business. This may include a review of energy consumption patterns, available roof space, shading, and orientation of the property.
This stage usually takes 1-2 weeks. During this time, we gather all necessary data and determine whether moving forward with a solar installation is feasible.
Your site inspection visit #
After confirming the feasibility, one of our qualified electrical engineers will visit your site for a comprehensive inspection. The engineer will conduct a thorough assessment of your building’s structure and electrical system. This includes:
- Structural Checks
Ensuring the roof or other installation area can support the weight of the solar panels. - Electrical Assessment
Verifying the suitability of the existing electrical infrastructure for connecting to the solar system. - Final Feasibility Review
Identifying any potential issues that could affect installation, such as obstructions, wiring, or potential shading from nearby structures.
The site visit typically takes 1-2 days, with follow-up discussions taking another few days to finalise findings.
Solar PV design revision and finalisation #
Based on the findings from the site inspection, our engineering team will revise the design to suit the specific conditions of your property. We will ensure that the final design maximises energy generation while adhering to building codes and electrical safety standards. Once the design is optimised, a detailed quotation will be provided, covering all aspects of the installation and expected performance.
The design and revision process typically takes 2-3 weeks, depending on the complexity of the site and any adjustments needed following the site inspection.
DNO application and approval #
Once the design and quotation are finalised, we will submit the required documentation to your District Network Operator (DNO) for approval. This is necessary to ensure that the system can be connected to the local grid without issues. The DNO will review the submitted plans and may require further technical details or adjustments.
This process can take anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks, depending on the DNO’s workload and complexity of the grid connection.
Planning, mobilisation & procurement #
With DNO approval in hand, we will begin preparing for installation. This includes:
- Planning: Collaborating with your on-site management team to schedule the installation around your business’s daily operations.
- Mobilisation: Coordinating all logistics to ensure that the necessary materials, equipment, and manpower are available on-site.
- Procurement: Ordering the solar panels, inverters, and other components, ensuring that everything is delivered and ready for installation.
This phase typically takes 2-4 weeks, depending on equipment availability and the coordination of various teams.
Construction & installation #
Our installation team will begin work based on the final approved design and project plan. This stage involves:
- System Setup: Installing solar panels, inverters, wiring, and any other required infrastructure.
- Electrical Integration: Connecting the system to your existing electrical system, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
- Quality Checks: Throughout the installation, we conduct regular quality control checks to ensure compliance with industry standards.
The construction and solar pv installation phase can take anywhere from 1 week to 3 months, depending on the size and complexity of the installation. Larger systems or systems requiring significant structural work may take longer.
Commissioning & handover #
Getting your commercial solar PV system up and running isn’t just about flipping a switch, it’s about making sure it’s tested, monitored, and set up to deliver the energy savings you’re expecting. That’s why the commissioning and handover process matters.
- It includes thorough system checks, 30 days of performance monitoring to fine-tune efficiency.
- A step-by-step handover to help you understand how everything works. You’ll learn how to track performance, handle any issues, and keep your system running smoothly for years to come.
- We provide a pack of all the key documents, you’ll have everything you need to feel confident about your investment. Simple, clear, and built for long-term success.
Commissioning and handover typically take 1-2 days, depending on the system’s complexity and whether additional training is required for your team.
Drone capture & press release #
Once the system is fully operational, our marketing team will work with you to capture high-quality aerial photos or videos of your installation using drones. This provides professional visuals for promoting the success of the project. A press release will be drafted and shared with your business and our media partners to highlight the achievement.
The drone capture and press release process takes 1-2 weeks, depending on weather conditions and the availability of press contacts.
Typical overall timescale of a solar PV installation #
From the initial feasibility study to the completion of the installation, the full process typically takes between 4 to 6 months, depending on factors such as the size of the installation, DNO approval times, and specific site requirements.
